Therapy Approaches.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy, used when past experiences — such as trauma, shame, or difficult sexual experiences — still feel present in your body or show up in your daily life. Sometimes these distressing memories become “stuck,” leaving you feeling overwhelmed, numb, easily triggered, or disconnected from yourself and others. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation - usually eye movements, tapping or alternating sounds - to help your brain and body process these experiences safely, so they feel less intense and no longer hold the same power. Many people find this work brings a greater sense of calm, safety, and reconnection with themselves. It is best known for treating trauma but can be powerful in its treatment for a range of other difficulties.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Many people who struggle with shame, sexual difficulties, or the impact of trauma carry a harsh inner critic or a deep sense of “something being wrong” with them. Compassion Focused Therapy helps you build a kinder, more understanding relationship with yourself. CFT can help you understand how your mind and body respond to threat and helps you build a sense of inner safety, emotional balance, and self-compassion. Over time, this can reduce anxiety, shame, and harsh self-judgement. This therapy approach can be especially helpful if you feel stuck in patterns of self-blame, body shame, or emotional overwhelm.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
When shame, trauma, or sexual difficulties enter a relationship, partners can begin to feel distant, hurt, or alone — even when they care deeply about each other. Emotionally Focused Therapy helps couples understand the deeper emotions and needs underneath conflict and distance. Rather than focusing on blame, we explore patterns that leave partners feeling hurt, disconnected, or alone. EFCT supports couples to communicate more openly, feel safer with each other, and rebuild closeness, trust, and emotional connection.
Psychosexual Therapy
Psychosexual therapy is a specialized, talking-based treatment designed to help individuals or couples address sexual problems by exploring the emotional, psychological, and physical factors contributing to them. It provides a safe, respectful space to explore concerns around sex, intimacy, desire and arousal. When using psychosexual therapy, we will work at your pace to understand what is happening in your mind and in your body to help reduce shame, pressure and self-blame to enable you to enjoy a more connected and positive experience of sex and pleasure.
Alongside talking and emotional work, psychosexual therapy may also include practical and behavioural suggestions to support change. These are always collaborative, optional, and adapted to your comfort and values
