About me…
I am an experienced HCPC registered clinical psychologist specialising in sexual health and gynaecology. I worked for several years in the NHS before making the decision to leave and work in private practice. I pride myself on being non-judgemental and compassionate, with a great passion for supporting people who experience shame and those who have been stigmatised due to society’s oppressive and harmful assumptions about gender, sexuality and sex.
I work in an anti-oppressive way, which means I pay attention to how power, identity, and social context shape people’s experiences of distress. I understand that distress makes sense based on what someone has lived through - including experiences of marginalisation, discrimination, trauma, and not being believed or supported.
The early sessions of therapy are about making sense of what you’re struggling with and what you would like to be different. I aim to understand your experiences in context, recognising that many difficulties and coping strategies are understandable responses to what people have lived through - including trauma, shame, marginalisation, or feeling unseen, unsafe, or unsupported.
We will explore your experiences of relationships growing up, including aspects of childhood and family life, alongside the wider social, cultural, and relational factors that have shaped you. I’m mindful of how identity, difference, and power can influence people’s experiences, both in life and in therapy.
When working with sexual concerns, I take an affirming and inclusive approach, understanding sexual difficulties in the context of identity, relationships, the body, and lived experience. I do not agree with the narrow societal scripts that limit our idea of what is ‘normal’ sexual behaviour. This includes working affirmatively with diverse sexualities, genders, bodies, and relationship styles.
Therapy with me is collaborative and paced with care. I integrate a range of approaches depending on your needs and goals, including Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, Psychosexual Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, somatic (body-based) approaches, and parts-based work.
